At Newport Sings, community is at the heart of everything we do—and our vocal ensemble, Quorus, is a shining example of how music becomes even more powerful when it’s shared. From the very beginning, Quorus has leaned into partnerships with local artists and organizations to amplify voices, uplift one another’s work, and celebrate the vibrant LGBTQIA+ community of Newport.

This month, we're shining a spotlight on two of our most cherished collaborators: Newport Pride and Channing Memorial Church. These ongoing relationships remind us that when we come together in harmony—both literally and figuratively—we create something bigger, bolder, and more beautiful than we ever could alone.

Newport Pride: A Voice for Justice and Joy

When Quorus launched in February 2023, Newport Pride was one of the first to amplify the opportunity to join us. From promoting our early events on social media to providing ongoing visibility for our ensemble, their support has been instrumental in helping us grow.

Quorus also had the honor of performing at Newport Pride’s inaugural gala in November 2023, where voices joined in celebration of progress, presence, and pride.

In March 2025, Newport Pride invited Quorus to lead a special event, Sing Out for Justice, in honor of Trans Day of Visibility. It was an evening of song, solidarity, and community connection—an embodiment of what it means to show up for one another.

This June, the collaboration continues: Quorus will perform at the Newport Pride Festival on Saturday, June 28, bringing music to the heart of this powerful community celebration.

Channing Memorial Church: A Home for Inclusion

Located in Newport, Channing Memorial Church is a Unitarian Universalist congregation deeply committed to inclusion and social justice. Through their Interweave group, they host numerous events that celebrate and support LGBTQIA+ individuals, including the Trans Day of Remembrance and the Born This Way Prom.

Quorus has been warmly welcomed by Channing Memorial Church for various services and events, offering music that honors identity, resilience, and community. Most recently, Channing invited Quorus to sing at their Pride Month service on Sunday, June 1—an invitation that reflects the trust and mutual respect between our organizations.

Why These Collaborations Matter

The collaborations between Quorus, Newport Pride, and Channing Memorial Church are about more than performance—they’re about purpose. Together, we’re building platforms that uplift LGBTQIA+ voices, advocate for equity, and create shared moments of joy and visibility through music.

As Elizabeth shared, “When we collaborate, both organizations are able to reach more people, be stronger and more visible in our community as advocates for our LGBTQIA+ friends and neighbors, and celebrate the outstanding work our partners do in and for our community.”

At Newport Sings, we believe that music is a connector—and these collaborations prove just how powerful that connection can be.
