LUMINOUS VOICES
History
Newport Sings launched the Luminous Voices program in fall 2025. ​

Luminous Voices brings members of our community together to share our voices with those who are isolated or ailing. Newport Sings welcomes all voices to sing for and with those who are in assisted living, memory care and hospice care.

Program
Luminous Voices provides two services to those who reside in assisted living, memory care and hospice care. One is a regularly scheduled class where residents are invited to sing along to familiar songs from their youth led by a song leader. Studies show the positive ways singing and music affects the brain, especially for those with memory and movement disorders.
Another service that Luminous Voices offers is small ensemble performances to bring joy and comfort to those who are ailing or isolated. Hearing music is scientifically proven to elevate mood, reduce chronic pain, and increase oxytocin, which is known to relieve stress.
Newport Sings will work directly with local assisted living and memory care facilities to schedule classes and visits, which will be free for the facility. In addition, Newport Sings will connect with local visiting nurse associations to set up hospice care visits as needed.​
