A message to our friends and supporters....

November 2017

Dear Friends,

I am excited to announce the inaugural year of the Newport County Youth Chorus, a before- and after-school chorus program in partnership with Salve Regina University. In September 2017, after months of planning and recruiting, NCYC began offering three free weekly classes at the Martin Luther King Community Center and Pell Elementary in Newport, RI and is currently serving 36 students in grades 2 - 4.

The mission of NEWPORT COUNTY YOUTH CHORUS is

  • To provide an exceptional choral music education program to the youth of the greater Newport/Aquidneck community,

  • To provide teaching opportunities and mentorship to developing teachers from Salve Regina University, and

  • To create a community arts organization that serves and connects the many facets of the Newport county area by spreading joy through our music and offering service to our neighbors.

Members of the NEWPORT COUNTY YOUTH CHORUS

  • Receive a high level music education which includes vocal development that is appropriate to the singers’ age and ability and increased musicianship knowledge and understanding, which is delivered in the context of a diverse music selection (genre, languages, cultures, time periods, religions).

  • Are encouraged to thrive as a member of a team and as an individual whose unique contribution influences the outcome of our collective goals.

  • Are led and mentored by positive adult role models including highly qualified music educators and professionals and students from Salve Regina University.

NEWPORT COUNTY YOUTH CHORUS Partnership with Salve Regina University

  • The NCYC program at Salve Regina gives students the opportunity to support and  enhance their coursework through meaningful teaching experience. Several outstanding Salve students are currently serving as rehearsal assistants.

We need and thank you for your support! Your donation is tax-deductible through Salve Regina, NCYC’s fiscal agent. Donate today!

Sincerely,
