Newport County Youth Chorus enters its second year
Last year, the inaugural season of the Newport County Youth Chorus exceeded our expectations. The Newport RI childrens chorus participated in several concerts, partnered with Emmanuel Church and the Choir School of Newport County, and worked closely with students from Salve Regina University. Our students had the opportunity to learn how to use their voices to harmonize, understand musical notation, and even sing in different languages!

This year we plan on expanding our partnerships with local organizations. We will be singing in new and exciting locations, as well as extending rehearsals to new areas, making it easier and more convenient for residents across Newport County to be a part of Newport County Youth Chorus. Students from Salve Regina University and Middletown High School serve as chorus managers to help our elementary students. With their help, we are able to offer our younger students mentorship through their peers, as well as to offer our more mature singers an opportunity to learn the nuances of teaching music.
What to expect of the childrens chorus this year
NCYC is thrilled to be expanding its childrens chorus to Middletown and Portsmouth this year. By offering rehearsals at St. Mary’s Church in Portsmouth, we’re making it more convenient for our Middletown and Portsmouth students to join us. We’re also extending the experience to middle school singers. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet new friends from different schools all across Aquidneck Island.
Singers—both new and returning—will learn new songs, and we will work on developing our musical skills. We are also excited to welcome chorus managers from Middletown High School and choir leaders from Thompson Middle School, expanding our leadership team.
Accepting new choristers: registration deadline—October 30
It’s not too late to join our children's chorus! We will be accepting new choristers at all rehearsals until October 30th. Remember, singing with Newport County Youth Chorus does not require any experience, and it is completely free to join.
